Design Your Four Poster Bed the Way You Want

October 14th, 2010 4 Poster Bed Expert Posted in Articles No Comments »

By installing a four poster bed to your bedroom, you are actually installing a dramatic furniture piece that can really add a style and class to your bedroom. The unique feature of fourposter beds is that, they have tall end posts that extend between 6 to 8 feet above the bed’s frame. Though this bedroom furniture is stylish and attractive looking, you can also design your own four- poster bed.

And if you do not know, how to design your four- poster bed yourself, here is how we do it.

Choose the theme

The first and the foremost step in designing a four- poster bed are to determine the type of theme you want your bed design to have. There are many theme options available to choose from.

You can either opt to design a modern bed with simple lines or you can go for a Gothic style bed that is poised with spouts at the top of each post.

Design the overall dimension

After choosing the theme of your bed, the next step is to design the overall dimension of your four poster bed. Begin with the dimensions of the bed frame. The bed’s frame includes two long side boards, a foot board and a head board.

You can get the length dimensions of these pieces by looking at the dimension of a standard bed frame, which has been manufactured for your mattress size you want.

After this, you can design he height of these boards, by keeping the height somewhere between 4 to 8 inches. In the end, determine the dimensions of your four- posters.

For this you will be required to the width, the height as well as the depth of each of the four posters.

Plan a design

The next step is to design a plan for your posters. You can choose from a variety of designs like a cylinder shaped poster, a claw and foot poster design, a four- sided prism shaped poster or a traditional shaped poster.

At the same time, you can also decide whether you want your four- posters to be carved or leave it flat.

Choose a colour scheme

Now comes the most important part that is to select a colour scheme for your bed. Depending upon the other furniture and bedroom’s theme, you can select the colour you want, your bed to paint with.

You have an option to stain the wood or paint it with the most designer colours. If you want your bed to look natural, use clear polyurethane finish. Whereas in order to make the look of your bed dramatic, painting your bed with black lacquer is a marvellous option.

Pick the hardware

To finalise designing your bed, pick the hardware required for assembling. This hardware may contain washers, screws and frame brackets. If you don’t want to display these things, spray them with the matching paint.

Four Poster Beds – Luxury and Elegance in Your Bedroom

October 3rd, 2010 4 Poster Bed Expert Posted in Articles No Comments »

Nothing can make a bedroom a place of splendour better than the bed itself. The bed is the first thing that catches the eye when one enters into the bedroom, and is also the perfect way to make a bedroom speak about your personal style. If you like your bedroom to be elegantly decorated and be your royal den, then a four poster bed is definitely the choice for you.

History of Four Poster Beds

For centuries, the four poster bed has been associated with the rich and noble strata of society, which is why the bed earns its name of ‘King of Beds’. Since these were beds used by kings, noblemen and other royalty, the designs reflected their richness. These beds were richly carved, made from splendid woods, and also adorned with jewels and gemstones. These beds were originally built for practical purposes as a safeguard against mosquitoes, vermin and insects. In order to carry drapes and net curtains for the same purpose, four posters were placed at each of the bed’s corners. The posters further supported an overhead panel or tester from which the curtains could be hung. Though, the original bed had a specific function attached to it, the modern poster bed is used more as a decorative feature which lends the bedroom a traditional and elegant look.

Great Items of Furniture at Home and Hotels

This style of bed has a romantic feel about it; no wonder, it is a common piece of furniture at hotels where it creates a romantic environment. A poster bed is found in tastefully decorated honeymoon suites and other luxurious hotel rooms; without much effort, this can transform a room of any kind into a majestic paradise. A poster bed is also a great option for homes when you are building the home of your dreams or otherwise planning a renovation. A bedroom is where one spends a considerable amount of time; the importance of a comfortable bed is felt especially after a long day at work. One’s bedroom is where one can unwind and relax, and for this reason, the choice of bed becomes an important factor. Poster beds are not only luxurious in the way they look, they are extremely comfortable too.

Handmade Four Poster Beds

A great way to personalize your bed is to have it hand made. You have the freedom of choosing the type of wood you want, as well as the design according to your taste. A hand made bed is a practical choice as it allows you to determine the space in your bedroom and order the bed accordingly. The last thing you want is to buy an elegant piece of furniture only to find it is a misfit in your room. Poster beds have stood the test of time and design and have come a long way from the ornate bejeweled beds that they once were to the modern and practical versions of today. Nevertheless, they are everybody’s dream furniture.

Decorating Your Bedroom

September 26th, 2010 4 Poster Bed Expert Posted in Articles No Comments »

There is no doubt that the bedroom is a sanctuary to many of us. We spend roughly a third of our lives in the bedroom. We sleep there, enjoy quality family time, and relax after a hard day’s work. Therefore it is necessary to ensure that our bedrooms are comfortable at all times.

Decorating the bedroom may not as easy as it may sound. It entails more than just deciding on a bed and dressers. It requires attention to every small detail such as:

- The dimensions of your bedroom,

- Your budget,

- The size of the mattresses,

- The width of the headboard,

- And the overall style that you want to achieve.

It is also important to consider other pieces you may want to include in your bedroom such as Armoires, Nightstands, Mirrors, etc. If you are going to accentuate your bedroom with pieces such as these, it may be a good idea to purchase them as a set since each piece will compliment each other and provide a sense of consistency in your bedroom furnishings. You also may be able to save money by buying a set all at once instead of a piece at a time.

As noted above, major considerations to take into account when decorating your bedroom are the dimensions of the room, and the size of mattress. If you are decorating for a child’s or teen’s bedroom, consider a smaller mattress such as a Twin (otherwise known as a Single) which generally are 39 inches wide by 75 inches long. You may also want to consider a Double (or Full) mattress if you desire extra space. Double-sized mattresses are 54 inches wide by 75 inches long.

However, if you are looking to decorate the bedroom for an adult, you may want the extra sleeping space and decide to go with a Queen or King-sized mattress. Queens are 60 inches wide by 80 inches long. Kings are generally 72 inches by 84 inches.
When decorating the bedroom, consider the different types of beds as well:

Sleigh Beds:

- Sleigh beds are characterized by elegant, curving lines and a distinctive, romantic feel. Because the style is so eye-catching, there are some things to consider. For example, the height of a wood sleigh headboard determines how prominent the bed will be in the context of the room

Four-Poster Beds:

- Four-Poster beds are characterized by four posts at each corner; they can be of equal or varying height and can be tall or short (short being defined as the post being 3 feet high or shorter). A pencil bed is a type of four-poster, named for its tall, thin, tapered posts.

Canopy Beds:

- A Canopy bed is essentially the same as a Four-poster bed, but with a draped covering. It is a popular choice due to its elegant and warm feeling, accentuated by linens and drapes overbearing the top of the bed.

Platform Beds:

- Platform beds are very simple in form, utilizing simple lines and are usually simple, rectangular bed frames, close to the ground. They commonly use a modern or contemporary design. Since the bed is generally not as high as a standard bed, using a platform bed as the focal point will make the room appear larger and more spacious.
Panel Beds:

- Panel beds have headboards and footboards that are usually all of one piece, without spindles or slats, and are straight up and down, so that they can stand flat against the wall.

Another important aspect to consider is the material(s) of a bed. In determining the feel of your bedroom, the materials that make up your bed go a long way. For a warm and romantic feel, consider decorating your bedroom with wooden furniture with accents and intricate designs. For a simple and contemporary feel, perhaps bedroom furniture made of metals and alloys would be a good solution.

Decorating the bedroom is never an easy task. I hope this article has provided you with valuable insights which will help make decorating your bedroom a simple and fun experience.

Beyond Cabin Beds – Fun Furniture Pieces to Bring the Outdoors Inside

September 24th, 2010 4 Poster Bed Expert Posted in Articles No Comments »

Sofas, dining tables and chairs, and end tables used to represent the meaning of log furniture exclusively. This is no longer the case. Other unique log furniture pieces include cabin beds, bathroom vanities, entertainment furniture, and pet accessories as well. Bringing fun outdoor furniture pieces into existing or new decors can add a splash of inspiration to one’s living experience.

No Longer The Cabin Beds Of Days Gone By

There are a variety of cabin beds to choose from that are built from woods such as pine, aspen, cedar, red cedar, barn wood, and hickory. One can even find cabin beds that blend the elements of wrought iron into a log headboard and footboard to create a warm yet contemporary look. Cabin beds come in a variety of sizes that range from twin to California king and include finish choices such as clear finish, no finish (natural wood), or a light honey color.

Cabin beds also come in many different forms that include the classic log bed with a 4-poster bed frame and a rustic appeal, a solid wood bed frame with a headboard that has extra room for books, a creamy white low-profile bed with a lower height footboard, and a log-high poster bed that is a step up from the classic look due to its extra high legs. Other unique styles of beds include day, bunk, canopy, and futon. If extra character is what one is looking for, perhaps cabin beds made from twisted logs or logs that bear the scars associated with survival in a natural environment is desirable. No matter the choice, all cabin beds have individual characteristics, so no two will look alike.

When replacing an old bed with a new log bed, you can include one for a pet as well. These cabin beds are made from selected hardwoods and are designed to complement emerging or existing decors. As with their human counterparts, pet log beds come in many styles, including an Adirondack dog bed made from untreated northern white cedar and a cottage dog bed that resembles a human daybed. Other pet accessories include exercise wheels for cats, hickory kennel tables, a rustic bird feeder, and a rustic pet feeder made from dead-standing lodge pole pine, which is designed to accommodate two aluminum food pans for a dog or cat.

Fun Log Furniture

Game rooms and bars are great places to include log furniture when redecorating one’s home with a rustic flare. Fun accents for game rooms are items such as a solid wood billiard tables with rustic wood accents, foosball tables made from solid pine, and solid wood dartboards prepared from your choice of knotty, ponderosa, and eastern white pine. If one is interested in providing a comfortable bar area for their friends and family, begin with a log bar made from cedar, pine, or aspen, which includes storage for wine and liquor, shakers, stirrers, and glassware. Adding stools and pub tables will complete the game room and bar area and provide years of memories for your loved ones and you.

Bathrooms That Include Rustic Motifs

The term ‘rustic bathroom’ may conjure up visions of cold outhouses on long winter nights; however, rustic bathrooms have moved into the modern era by integrating the homey comfort of logs into modern conveniences such as bathroom vanities that boast copper accessories like sinks and water faucets. As with the other types of log furniture, the bathroom vanity comes in a range of styles, from simple to detailed and from plain country charm to contemporary. The variety does not stop there. Wood choices range from the delicate, pale complexion of northern white cedar to the harshness of hickory with the bark intact.

Other accessories that bring the outdoor spirit into modern bathrooms are beautiful log mirrors, attractive toilet paper holders, towel bars and hangers, rustic looking shower curtains, and country themed towel sets. Other added touches such as soap dishes, lotion pumps, tumblers, tissue box covers, waste paper baskets, and toothbrush holders also complement the rest of a rustic bathroom. They come in a variety of rustic motifs that include acorn patterns and items with leather and metal ornamentations.

Sofas, dining tables and chairs, and end tables no longer represent the definition of log furniture exclusively. Bringing fun outdoor furniture pieces such as pet beds, unique log beds, entertainment tables, and bathroom accessories into existing or new decors can add a splash of warmth to one’s emergent rustic home.

Single Four Poster Beds – Perfect Beds For Children

September 19th, 2010 4 Poster Bed Expert Posted in Articles No Comments »

We looked around for a single four poster bed for children. No doubt, we found a few but along with that we found them to be a bit too serious. Four poster beds for children not only need to be trendy and fun, they need to be safe as well. In this particular article, we’ll guide you through the process of buying a single four poster bed for your children. We all know how messy children can get. The idea is to find a bed that is for children as well as safe for them.

The New Age Four Posters

Most traditional single four poster beds were made of oak. Their modern versions are made up of woods like birch, sycamore as well as mahogany. You need to be careful while buying such beds for your children. Why? While a number of established furniture manufacturers are making use of such exotic woods, a number of them are out to trick consumers by using these woods only to construct the exteriors of the bed. The interiors are conveniently constructed with the help of plywood. Most woods are safe. However there are a few of them, especially plywood’s that are known to emit a lethal substance known as formaldehyde. Formaldehyde can cause a lot of eye and skin irritation. Prolonged exposure to formaldehyde emissions can cause serious damages to your child’s respiratory system.

Bed Designs

We can’t elaborate on this topic here but we would recommend you go for a modern four poster bed that has some storage space as well. Having a bedroom drawer in your child’s room for storing his/her toys may be convenient for you but not for him/her. Buy your children a fourposter bed that comes with a set of under-bed drawers so that they can access it easily.

Safety Concerns

And how to make sure that the beds are safe for your children. Choose only those single four poster beds that are ideally curved, i.e. beds without any sharp edges. It takes a while for children to achieve a balance and they will tend lose it and fall, every now and then. Make sure their beds don’t become the reason for them getting hurt.

An Enclosed Sleeping Space

While selecting a single four poster bed for your children, make sure that the sleeping area is well enclosed from all sides. The enclosures need to be soft and cushioned otherwise they may hurt the child if he/she makes a sudden turn.No need to hop from one shop to another in order to look for designs. You can do all your shopping online. The choices and the prices are bound to be better there!

We hope you liked our article! Make a good decision!

Why I Love Canopy Beds

September 13th, 2010 4 Poster Bed Expert Posted in Articles No Comments »

Many years ago, a canopy bed was a functional item. The canopy was used to keep out dirt and insects; to preserve temperature (to keep the occupant cool or warm), and to provide privacy. Today, this type of bed is considered an unnecessary item, to some – maybe even superfluous. But for me, the canopy bed has always been synonymous with luxury. It may seem a bit over the top but for what it’s worth here are my reasons for buying one.

As a little girl, I wanted nothing more than a four poster bed. My family lived in a small house at the time, and I shared not only my room, but a small daybed with my little sister. I would lie awake at night and fantasize about having my own bedroom, with a beautiful canopy bed as the centerpiece. I’d watch television shows like “The Brady Bunch” and anytime I saw a girl lucky enough to have a pink, princess-themed bedroom with a white four-poster canopy bed, I’d feel a pang of jealousy. Why, oh why couldn’t it be me reclining in that huge bed, reading Judy Blume books and staring up at a white lace canopy?

I never did get the canopy bed of my girlhood dreams. When I got married, and moved into my own house, I had some very definite ideas of how my “grown-up” bedroom should be furnished (as you might imagine). I was determined to have the four-poster of my dreams-maybe not a princess room-but a canopy bed was definitely within my reach. Finally, my childhood fantasy realized!

If you do purchase this type of bed then take some time to consider the interior design of your room. After much deliberation, I settled on a black iron four-poster bed with canopy. We painted the room a barn-red, and the visual effect of the black iron and white linens upon entering the bedroom is very dramatic. My husband, who was against purchasing such a large item in the first place, has come around and can certainly appreciate the romantic allure that a bed of this type affords. It’s like living in your own Harlequin Romance novel.

I’ve certainly turned my bedroom into my own little sanctuary by purchasing a bed of this type. Every night when I jump into bed to read before falling asleep, I always feel as though I’ve stumbled into a luxury hotel. On particularly bad days, when I feel as though I need to retreat from the world, I’ll close all of the panels around the bed, and suddenly, I have my own little room, my own little space just for me. And no more worries about having to share my space with my younger sister! So if you want one then go for it, canopy beds really can be functional as well as beautiful.

Poster Canopy Beds

September 12th, 2010 4 Poster Bed Expert Posted in Articles No Comments »

Maybe you are thinking about adding a new canopy bed to your bedroom. If you are, I can’t really blame you as these elegant and beautiful beds just seem to transform any room they are added to. Now, when you decide to shop for your new king canopy bed, make sure you know the difference between this and a four poster bed. With a four post bed they are designed so that each corner of the bed is fitted with a pole. This serves the purpose for fitting mosquito netting over the bed to keep these and other insects away from you so you can have a peaceful night of sleep. These four poster beds can be decorated to simulate the look of a canopy bed, and though you can get it to look much like a canopy bed it will just not be the same.

In addition, you can also find poster canopy beds that have been manufactured to look very much like a canopy bed. They have the four poles in each corner of the bed, and you see special fabrics attached to the top of the poles that drape of the sides. This fabric gives the bed a canopy look, and you can drape the poles with ornate and beautiful fabrics to get the exact look you desire. You will see the poles quite often draped with frills or pleats that have amazing sceneries painted on them, or even pastel colors using a muslin fabric that has been dyed. Many different shapes and designs can be made with these fabrics, with the result only limited to your creative abilities and imagination.

A poster canopy bed is commonly found now in the market place, as it is no longer considered to be a luxury piece of furniture. You can find these beds in steel, iron, and other metals, but it is most often made from different types of hard woods. Although steel makes for a heavy bed frame, wood frames can be less durable and much more difficult to maintain and require frequent polishing.

The poster canopy bed is very affordable with good availability, and you can even go online to a wide selection of shape, materials, and sizes of beds. Quite often with the metal beds the designs will be extremely unique to the artist and manufacturer of the bed, making them special for you. With the draping you can plan the design so that is drapes the bed in such a way to highlight the design and craftsmanship of the bed. If you spend extra money on an ornate bed and frame, you will want to make sure you can see it.

You will also be able to easily find the appropriate bedding to match your new poster canopy bed. If your bed is a unique design it may require that you use the services of a tailor to modify standard bedding materials. This will cost you a bit more, but it will be worth it to make sure the bedding fits correctly. If you are a discriminating home owner, I hope you will consider adding one of these beautiful beds to your home, and transform your master bedroom into an elegant show place.

How to Buy a Mattress – 3 Tips to Remember

September 7th, 2010 4 Poster Bed Expert Posted in Articles No Comments »

How important is a mattress to you? Or should I ask how crucial is a good night sleep for you? Think of all the undesirable outcomes of a bad night’s sleep. You feel tired, exhausted and easily irritable. What a bad way to start the day.

Since how good a sleep you have depends largely on the mattress you have, it is therefore pertinent for you to spend a bit of time investigating the quality and reliable of the mattress you are planning to buy. Here are some tips that will help.

Set expectations right.

Knowing what you want is a very important consideration when it comes to shopping for your needs. With so many brands and choices to consumers like you nowadays, it is easy to get confused and lose track of you want and what your expectations is. Forget the extra frills and try to focus on what is your need instead.

Price versus Quality.

Most mattresses can last for between five to ten years. It may be tempting to buy one that is much cheaper. But remember, it may not last as long or the quality may be very much inferior. You could be losing sleep over it! Instead, treat it as some sort of investment where the value is a proper night’s rest. You may find it more worthwhile to pay for reasonable price then.

Where to Buy.

Depending on where you stay, you may have several stores or outlets around you. Which ones should you put your money in? One advice is to pick one that has good reputation with well-trained staff who can answer to your queries. After all, you will want to buy from someone who is an expert and knows what they are selling. If their answers are vague or they keep beating around the bush, you should probably consider going elsewhere. Alternatively, you can also browse the internet or classifieds as they may offer discounts or freebies information.
